Social Skills Language Group, Winter/Spring 2011

The Lowcountry Therapy Center is pleased to announce enrollment for our Winter/Spring 2011 Social Language Skills Group.  Children with PDD, High Functioning Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, and Pragmatic Language Disorders are invited to build communicatory and peer interactive skills.  Children with ADHD, auditory processing, social anxiety, and those using alternative/augmentative communication would also benefit from this group.  Group goals include greeting/bidding farewell, making introductions, asking questions, sharing ideas, expressing needs/wants, accepting suggestions, identifying emotions, monitoring body language, developing personal space understanding, repairing miscommunication, and listening to others.  All goals are introduced through stories, games, crafts, songs and interactive computer games as to maintain motivation. 

Groups are limited to 6 students, and students must be willing to participate in a group environment. Participation requires basic conversational skills, ability to respond to Who, What, Where, When and Why questions, and willingness to follow directions.

Group objectives will include social referencing; attending to others' body language; good listening; "space invading"; turn taking; asking questions; answering questions; complimenting/receiving compliments; topic maintena
nce;" being a group member; being a good sport; joining a group; "keeping cool"; and "tattle-taling."
